TinyUmbrella Update Will Bypass SHSH Checks and Restore iDevice Without iTunes

Semaphore is working on an update to TinyUmbrella that will allow users to restore their iDevices without iTunes.

I've been working on a new and improved version of TinyUmbrella that will, among other things, allow you to restore your iDevice without iTunes. With the holiday season and work, this will take me a bit to get working the way I want it. I appreciate your patience and your support. You guys are awesome :) No ETAs yet but I'll post updates here and on twitter.

Semaphore explains that this means bypassing shsh checks will be possible for devices that can be exploited by limera1n (basically all devices available now) and the steaksauce exploit for the mc 2g ipod touch.

You will always be able to install a custom firmware (or stock firmware) following these directions.

1. Enter DFU
2. Run the Exploit
3. Wait for the White Screen
4. Restore the ipsw of your choice.

Some changes to the ipsw will be required. We will post more information as it becomes available.

Cydia is Coming to the Mac!

Apple is busily working to bring the App Store to the Mac and now Saurik has announced that he will be bringing Cydia to the Mac as well.

According to TUAW, Saurik presented at 360|MacDev giving an overview of his upcoming jailbreak store for Mac OS X, Cycript, and Cydia Substrate.

Currently, Cydia Installer has been used by about 10% of all iPhone users, or about 10 million devices. There are well over 30,000 packages available for iOS, and a lot of open source material can be downloaded from Cydia. He refers to Cydia as a store for things that are not apps, but extensions of what iOS devices can do.

Freeman felt that the same type of store would be useful for Mac OS X devices; the result is a Mac Cydia, which will be available "within weeks." With today's news that the Mac App Store will not support in-app purchases, something that is critical to the freemium app model that is so successful in the iOS world, a Mac Cydia might be just the web store for a number of Mac developers.

Those developers interested in getting their app on the Cydia Store for Mac can contact contact patrick at saurikit.com.

With post more details as they become available...

Apple will help you share and purchase apps

Apple is deadly serious with its App-driven vision for life in the clouds, with a new patent application describing its new way to share and buy apps from the cloud.

Published today and spotted by Patently Apple the application reveals the concepts behind the Apple vision, whch essentially allows users to share apps on their phones — say you were impressed the first time you saw Angry Birds, for example.
“Aaron wants to share an application stored on his iPhone (or “sharing device” 202) with Brent’s iPhone (or “receiving device” 204). Aaron’s iPhone displays a list of applications which are available to share with Brent. Aaron selects, via a suitable user input such as speech, touch gestures, stylus input, keypad input, etc., at least one application to share with Brent’s iPhone.”

The two iPhone users can share apps on a peer-to-peer basis this way, and if payment is required the receivee can pay later. The patent even describes ways in which the giver could receive incentives for sharing apps — money, coupons, whatever…

Extend these concepts to Mac apps via the Mac App Store and you’re probably about to experience a software sales explosion.

Security Consultant to Unveil New Jailbreak Process Next Week

Security consultant Stefan Esser is set to unveil a new jailbreak method and utility that fortifies iDevices with ASLR, according to the Register.

Esser will present his new jailbreak process at the Power of Community Security Conference on December 14 in Seoul, South Korea. A new tool called "Antid0te" will simplify the procedure.

ASLR makes your device more resistant to malware attacks by randomizing the memory locations where injected code is executed.

"When you jailbreak it, it breaks a lot of security of a normal iPhone," hacker Charlie Miller told The Reg. "With Stefan's stuff, now maybe it's an option, if you're a security-conscious person, to still jailbreak your phone because you can pick up ASLR, which is going to make it a lot harder to do exploits."

"This enables users with jailbroken iPhones to create their own set of dyld_shared_cache files that have completely different library load addresses from every other iPhone in the world," Esser wrote in an email. "This is already a better ASLR than what exists on Snow Leopard because different applications can use different shared caches and therefore different load addresses."

We'll keep you up to date with more information as it develops...

iPhone Dev-Team Successfully Untethers iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak

The iPhone Dev-Team has announced that they have successfully untethered the jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1 for those with their 4.2b3 hashes saved.

MuscleNerd recently tweeted, Got "backup plan" for untethered 4.2.1 JB working (video coming up). Uses mysterious 4.2b3 hashes Cydia kept for you.

(It's a "backup plan" because comex is working on a more extensible one, but this method is also generalizable)

We'll keep you up to date with more information as it develops.

Update:
MuscleNerd has confirmed that this will work with AppleTV 2G 4.2.1 too.

Update x2:
Comex has said that we'll get an untethered jailbreak by Christmas.

iPhone Dev-Team is Working on New Baseband Downgrade Method

The iPhone Dev-Team is working on a baseband downgrade method which will even work for those who updated to the 06.15 modem firmware.

MuscleNerd tweeted the following earlier today...

@Lezanz sorry still collecting data on that. But also working on a bb downgrade (!) method for those with unlockable bb
@idansc yes if the BB downgrade method works, it will work for 06.15 too.

This would be excellent news especially for those who upgraded to 06.15 for unlock and lost their GPS capabilities.

iPhone Dev-Team Releases PwnageTool 4.1 Jailbreak Utility

The iPhone Dev-Team has released PwnageTool 4.1 which adds supports for the Apple TV 2G and jailbreaks iOS 4.1

Through a combination of the recently released geohot limera1n exploit comex’s recently released pf exploit, and our original pwnage2 exploit, PwnageTool 4.1 works on these devices at firmware 4.1:

* AppleTV 2G
* iPad (firmware 3.2.2)
* iPod touch 4G
* iPod touch 3G
* iPhone4
* iPhone 3GS
* iPhone 3G

PwnageTool allows you to restore to a custom IPSW file. For instance, you can restore to a pre-jailbroken firmware while simultaneously maintaining your current baseband (and thus your ultrasn0w carrier unlock). You can also add whatever packages you want in the “Expert” mode of PwnageTool, if you wish to pre-install Cydia packages. iPhone 3G users get the additional benefit of selecting their own boot and recovery logos, and features like multitasking and battery charge percentage.

PwnageTool’s main advantage to ramdisk-based methods (limera1n, greenpois0n, redsn0w) is for unlockers — those that need to keep their current baseband and preserve their ultrasn0w unlock. But in this new age of both bootrom- and userland-based exploits, its an excellent platform for continuing the jailbreak through all future firmwares. More on this later! In the meantime, please enjoy this free software and please provide any usage feedback in our comment section below.

AppleTV 2G users: Welcome to the JB family! Right now, about all you can do is command-line stuff via ssh. You also have afc2 available, so you can use tools like ifunbox to move files around. These are the *very* early days of AppleTV 2G jailbreaking, so it’ll take some time for JB app developers to come up with methods to use your AppleTV 2G from the remote, versus the command line. PS: Your ssh password is “alpine”…please change it when you can :)

DFU button: That “DFU” button in PwnageTool is more than it looks like. It guides you through the DFU process, but then also runs the appropriate exploit to convince your device and iTunes that all is legit. The DFU button in PwnageTool is not just your average DFU.

You can download PwnageTool 4.1 from here.

New iPhone Baseband Crash May Bring Unlock for iOS 4.1, iOS 4.2

Sherif Hashim has discovered another exploitable iPhone baseband crash which could bring an unlock for iOS 4.1 and iOS 4.2.

@sherif_hashim: since nearly all my received tweets ask about both BB, I can report very early "initial" 1st step success on both sides, calmed down? :)

@mrpauldurden: @sherif_hashim very early first steps means.. you've found a crash that can potentially prove to be an expoitable vulnerability?

@sherif_hashim: @mrpauldurden a bit more sure than this, yeah

Hashim previously found a baseband crash in iOS 4.0 that was instrumental in bringing the unlock for devices on that firmware.

Veeence suggests that the unlock won't be released till iOS 4.2; however, it will still support iOS 4.1.

@veeence: A new exploitable baseband crash has been found. An unlock will very likely be released after iOS 4.2 and will unlock both BB's of 4.1 & 4.2

We'll bring you more information as it becomes available.

Chronic Dev-Team Releases Greenpois0n Jailbreak for iOS 4.1

The Chronic Dev-Team has released Greenpois0n, their utility for jailbreaking the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch on iOS 4.1.

After much controversy, the tool has been updated to use the bootrom exploit found by Geohot.

Unfortunately, only a Windows version is currently available; however, a mac version and ipt2g support are coming soon.

You can download Greenpois0n from here.

Our tutorials will be posted shortly. Stay tuned!

Update:
From the many comments and our own experience, Greenpois0n does not seem to be installing Cydia at the moment. You may want to hold off until this is fixed.

Limera1n Can Jailbreak the Apple TV

Eric Sadun has confirmed that she was able to jailbreak her Apple TV with Limera1n; however, it does not install OpenSSH at this time, so not much can be done with it.

The Limera1n page has updated to indicate that Apple TV jb is 'technically supported'. I can confirm that I put my ATV2 into DFU mode and was able to 'jailbreak' it. But since no AFC services or OpenSSH were installed (let alone APT), there's nothing that really can be done with it at this time.

We'll let you know when the jailbreak is updated to install OpenSSH.

greenpois0n Delayed because of a limera1n release

Thanks to the irresponsible antics of geohot, we will have to delay the release of greenpois0n (new ETA = as soon as possible), so that we have time to clean up his little mess and integrate the exploit he uses in limera1n into greenpois0n. This way, we can save SHAtter for future devices that may still be vulnerable to it.

We know that this is not what some people want to hear, but due to geohot needing to feed his ego (as usual) and revealing his limera1n exploit, we do not have any other responsible options.

Activate GameCenter on iPhone3G + GameDetection

You'll Need:

First you need jailbroken iphone 3G with 4.1 firmware (custom firmware if you depend on sim unlock like ultrasn0w)
OpenSSH - installed on your iphone from Cydia
WinSCP or Cyberduck (or every other SSH Browser)
And the Updated GameCenter Pack-v2
Mobile Substrate - installed on your iphone from Cydia (you may already have it if you use Ultrasn0w to unlock your phone)

Settings for Cyberduck & WindSCP

Make sure iTunes is completely closed

Cyberduck

* Server: The IP address of your iPhone. Settings –> WiFi –> “Your Network Name”
* Username: root
* Password: alpine
* Protocol: SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol)

WinSCP

* Hostname: The IP address of your iPhone. Setting –> WiFi –> “Your Network Name”
* User name: root
* Password: alpine
* Protocol: SCP

Getting Started

1. After connecting to your iPhone, Navigate to /private/var/stash/Applications and copy to this folder the Game Center~iphone.app folder.
After that, rightclick on the folder and set permissions to 0755 ( 755 ).

2. Navigate to /system/libary/CoreServices/SpringBoard.app/
Now you got the choose between different N82AP.plist 's. The plists are in separate folders which names describe what is activated in the plist. For example:

GC Only - enable only game center
Multitasking + GC - enable multitasking and gamecenter
Wallpaper + GC - enable wallpaper and gamecenter
Wallpaper + GC + Multi - enable wallpaper, gamecenter and multitasking

Choose the one you like from the downloaded folder and replace it with the one on the iPhone.

3. Navigate to System/Libary/LaunchDeamons/ directory then drag & drop com.apple.gamed.plist into the directory

4. Navigate to usr/libexec/ directory then drag & drop gamed file into the directory and set the permission to 0755 (755)

5. Go to /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/ and copy PatchGC.plist and PatchGC.dylib files in this folder. Be sure that permissions set to 0644 (644)

6. Reboot your device, and youre done.

iPhone Dev-Team Releases RedSn0w 0.9.6b1 for Windows

The iPhone Dev-Team has released an update to the Windows version of RedSn0w which can jailbreak the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G on iOS 4.1

You can download the Windows version here.

Remember if you need to unlock your device please don't use RedSn0w has it requires an update to your baseband. Wait for the release of PwnageTool for iOS 4.1

Jailbreak for iOS 4.1 Will Be Untethered!

MuscleNerd, a member of the iPhone Dev-Team, has announced that the SHAtter jailbreak itself is tethered but comex has come up with a way to untether it!

Those reading between the lines: Yes SHAtter itself is tethered. @comex came up with a way to untether it on 4.1/3.2.2

SHAtter is yet another breed of exploit. Bootrom-based but requires userland 'assistance' for untethered boots (@comex did this for 4.1)

This is excellent news since a tethered jailbreak would require your iDevice to be connected to the computer for reboot.

The Greenp0ison jailbreak will be released October 10th at 10:10:10 GMT.

GreenPois0n iOS 4.1 jailbreak may launch Sunday at 10:10:10AM

Chronic dev team member, Joshua Hill, has tweeted the goods on GreenPois0n’s launch date. In case you didn’t read the title, the jailbreak for iOS 4.1 is coming this Sunday, Oct. 10, at 10:10:10 AM.

We still don’t really know anything about this jailbreak and hopefully it actually launches on time. Update: For iPad, iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4th gen.

Mercedes-Benz Demos Prototype iPad Docking Station

Mercedes-Benz demoed a prototype iPad docking station at the Paris Motor Show in an S-Class sedan.

According to BenzInsider, the plan is to launch the integration solution for the iPad onto the market for a variety of Mercedes models after development for series production.

Mounted on the back of the front seats at head restraint height, the holder significantly extends the usability of the iPad: the battery of the tablet PC begins to charge as soon as the device is placed in the holder. Once at the destination, it can be simply removed without having to be switched off, and during the journey all of the entertainment products stored on the iPad can continue to be used. The docking station can be turned and tilted to achieve the best viewing angle, and if the vehicle is fitted with the Mercedes-Benz InCar Hotspot then even an iPad without UMTS functionality can enjoy the benefit of a full connection to the Internet.

iPhone Dev-Team Demos SHAtter Jailbreak for iOS 4.1

The iPhone Dev-Team has published a video demonstrating the upcoming SHAtter jailbreak for iOS 4.1.

The exploit (and payload) was developed by @pod2g a few months after @p0sixninja of the Chronic Dev Team discovered the crash. That team is hard at work bringing you a brand new tool to make use of the exploit. It’s not the sort of thing that can be developed overnight so please be patient while waiting for any announcements from them.

In the meantime, we’ve put @pod2g’s exploit into a beta version of PwnageTool to test the waters. The SHAtter exploit was enough to convince the iPod touch 4G to restore to our custom IPSW. The successful result is shown below!

Although PwnageTool was a useful first test of a full iPod 4G jailbreak via SHAtter, it’s really overkill compared to the faster tools being developed. Its main use in PwnageTool will be for those with iPhone4’s, to allow updates while preserving the baseband and ultrasn0w carrier unlock. In any event, this is another exciting time for iPhone and iPod touch users…the cat and mouse game continues!

The PwnageTool beta is for internal testing only. You can take a look at the video demonstration below...

iOS 4.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS (New Bootrom) with Sn0wbreeze 2.0 Released. Here is What You Need to Know

iH8sn0w’s Sn0wbreeze 2.0 will droped yesterday (23rd September). For those of you who don’t know, Sn0wbreeze for Windows works like PwnageTool for Mac which helps you in creating custom firmware files so that you can upgrade to new firmware without upgrading your baseband. This allows you to use the existing version of Ultrasn0w for unlocking the phone so that you can use it with any carrier you like.

However it is to be noted that Sn0wbreeze 2.0 WILL NOT jailbreak iPhone 4, iPad and iPod touch 4G. The devices which it will support are:

iPhone 2G
iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS (old bootrom) – Must be already jailbroken. (If you are jailbroken using Spirit or JailbreakMe, use Spirit2Pwn from http://repo.woowiz.net)
iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) – Must be currently jailbroken on 3.1.2.
iPod Touch 1G
iPod Touch 2G (Non-MC Model)
iPod Touch 2G (MC Model) – Must be currently jailbroken on 3.1.2.
iPod Touch 3G – Must be currently jailbroken on 3.1.2.

I published a small sn0wbreeze update (2.0.1) to those having Error 37 to a small size of users.

New York Transit begins iPhone as wallet trials

Look I’ve been bleating on ad infinitum about how your iPhone will one day be your wallet — now over at the real world, New Yorkers may soon pay for their travel fares with a flick of their iDevice.

Visa has just launched a new pilot scheme in which New Yorkers can pay for subway, bus and train fares with their iPhone.

New York City Transit, NJ TRANSIT and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are participating in the pilot program, Mashable tells us. As part of the program, Visa is testing both payment cards and Visa payWave-enabled smartphones.

Visa is also working with Bank of America to bring smartphone payments to retailers in New York City.

I’m won’t get into the pros and cons of the so-called ‘cashless society’ this takes us one step closer towrd. Nor will I get into the implications of paying for goods or services using devices capable recording in great detail the who, where, and why of the experience. Just think of the convenience. And don’t lose your iPhone.

Apple is a mobile money-making machine

The below chart is so telling, showing as it does Apple’s slice of mobile industry profits in comparison to its actual sliver of a slice of the mobile industry itself.

With this in mind, Canaccord Genuity today began offering coverage of AAPL stock, citing a buy rating and rather stonkingly high $356 per share price.
The analysts have astutely spotted that not only can Apple create innovative products, it also knows how to make money selling them.

The iPhone of Night Clubs

The most cleverest geek nightclub sign you'll ever see, compliments of San Francisco's Red Devil Lounge

RedSn0w Updated to Jailbreak iOS 4.1 on iPhone 3G, iPod Touch 2G

RedSn0w has been updated to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on the iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G

This is a beta release of redsn0w for the iPhone3G and iPod Touch 2G at FW 4.1 or 4.0. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we've been using since the 2.x days. It does not include the SHAtter exploit developed by pod2g. Nothing new is revealed to Apple with this jailbreak.

IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W UNLOCK, PLEASE WAIT FOR PWNAGETOOL TO SUPPORT 4.1. DO NOT USE REDSN0W. That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple. If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possible forever).

Currently this RedSn0w 0.9.6 release is Mac OS X only; however, a Windows very will come in the near future.

You can find instructions on how to use RedSn0w here. Simply download this new RedSn0w build and use the 4.1 ipsw instead of the 4.0 one in the tutorial.

FaceTime not coming to many parts of the Middle East?

If Apple’s iPhone 4 promotional pages for some Middle Eastern countries are any indication, it doesn’t look like the FaceTime part of the iPhone package. For many of these countries, the image on the left turned into a Retina Display promotion while they were FaceTime images before like on the U.S. site.

We’ve confirmed the loss of FaceTime promotional images for Jordan, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia but check out the full list yourself by navigating this page. This could either be a simple image swap, but TUAW speculates that (via SaudiMac) the lack of FaceTime may be due to some “cultural sensitives” in the Middle East. Or it could just be that the woman in the ad doesn’t have her modest covering on.
We’ll be sure to update when we learn more.

Apple to call iOS printing AirPrint. HP first to support

Apple issued a press release (and updated iOS 4.2 page) ahead of the iOS 4.2 beta that just hit. In it, they detail the new AirPrint standard and its ability to work with HP ePrint printers. To confuse matters slightly, HP offers an iPrint iOS app (pictured below) that does iOS printing.

It appears that MacOS 10.6.5 will also allow printing through a Mac with current developer builds offering that functionality.

“AirPrint is Apple’s powerful new printing architecture that matches the simplicity of iOS—no set up, no configuration, no printer drivers and no software to download,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users can simply tap to print their documents or photos wirelessly to an HP ePrint printer or to a printer shared on a Mac or PC.”

“We’re pleased to work with Apple to bring Apple’s AirPrint to our fall lineup of ePrint printers in time for the holiday shopping season,” said Vyomesh Joshi, HP executive vice president, Imaging and Printing Group. “Making it easy for our customers to print anytime, anywhere, is a key priority for HP. iPad, iPhone and iPod touch customers are going to love how easy it is to print using our new range of ePrint printers, creating high-quality printed pages in an instant.”

Full Release below:
Apple’s AirPrint Wireless Printing for iPad, iPhone & iPod touch Coming to Users in November
Available First on HP ePrint Printers
CUPERTINO, California—September 15, 2010—Apple® today announced that it is releasing a beta version of its AirPrint wireless printing for iPad™, iPhone® and iPod touch® to members of Apple’s iOS developer program today, and that AirPrint will be included in the free iOS 4.2 software update in November. AirPrint automatically finds printers on local networks and can print text, photos and graphics to them wirelessly over Wi-Fi without the need to install drivers or download software. HP’s existing and upcoming ePrint enabled printers will be the first to support printing direct from iOS devices.

AirPrint is designed to support a wide range of printers from entry level inkjet printers to office laser printers. Additionally, iOS 4.2 devices can print to printers shared through a Mac® or a PC. iOS 4.2 compatible HP printers this fall include the HP Photosmart, Officejet, Officejet Pro and LaserJet Pro series ePrint enabled printers.

*AirPrint will work with iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPod touch (second generation and later).

Apple eating away at Nokia’s European dominance

Nokia remains the dominant smartphone provider in Europe but competitors are whittling away at its European marketshare, the latest July stats from comScore reveal.

Its MobiLens survey for July 2010 shows that 51.2% of smartphone-owning respondents in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Italy have Nokias. Symbian marketshare has declined, down 14.4% since July 2009. Meanwhile Apple’s iOS and Android grew by 5.3% and 5.6% respectively.

In the US, Apple holds 23.8 percent smartphone OS usage, just behind BlackBerry with 39.3 percent. Similar in the UK, where iOS holds 29.6 percent; that climbs to 31.6 percent in France. In both territories, Symbian OS smartphones dominate with just over a third of the market.

More statistics here.

Steve Jobs Stopped From Bringing Ninja Stars Back From Japan

Steve Jobs says he will never return back to Japan after authorities barred him from taking Ninja throwing stars aboard his private jet, according to a SPA! magazine report.

Bloombery says, a security scan at Kansai International Airport, near Osaka, detected the weapons inside the executive’s carry-on luggage in July as he was returning home to the U.S. from a family vacation in Kyoto, the Japanese magazine reported, citing unidentified officials at the airport and the transportation ministry.

Jobs said it wouldn’t make sense for a person to try to hijack his own plane, according to the report. He then told officials he would never visit Japan again, the magazine reported. Apple declined to comment.

Takeshi Uno, an airport spokesman verified the occurrence but would not identify the passenger citing the airport's privacy policy. He did say that the passenger threw away the blades.

Cydia Has Acquired Rock Your iPhone

Saurik (maker of Cydia) has announced that he has acquired Rock Your iPhone, a rival app for installing jailbroken apps.

The situation is explained by Saurik in a post on Cydia:

The key thing to realize is that Intelliborn, the company that brought you such products as IntelliScreen and MyWi, are the same developers who created Rock Your iPhone.

Unfortunately, due to some early miscommunication, rather than us being in a position where we were cooperating on platforms like Cydia, we ended up spending most of our time competing with each other over the course of the last two years.

This was not good: Rock ended up wasting a ton of effort implementing Cydia, while SaurikIT got dragged into an "apps battle" to compete with the Rock exclusives from Intelliborn.

The primary goal of this new world, then, is to put everyone "back on task", with a true collaboration rather than this incessant competition.

For users who were happy with Rock due to its speediness. Saurik says this was because of some incorrect/dangerous shortcuts which led to the "essential upgrade" that was required for Spirit and then crashed many devices. Now that the apps competition is over, Saurik will be able to concentrate on platform issues full time and hopefully improve performance.

As part of the collaboration, Rock's backup feature is being implemented in Cydia and all previous Rock backups and licenses will be merged into the Cydia database. Comments and ratings also being looked at and Saurik is consulting with the major repos on different implementation ideas.

This announcement should come as welcomed news to jailbreakers who will benefit from being able to get all their apps in one place as well as enjoy the improvements to Cydia.

App Store Review Guidelines’ Greatest Hits

After going through Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines, we decided it would be a great idea to compile our personal favorites. Some even sound like the words of Jobs.

1: “Apps with metadata that mentions the name of any other mobile platform will be rejected” – No Android for you!

2: “Apps that artificially increase the number of impressions or click-throughs of ads will be rejected” – Don’t be greedy.

3: “App user interfaces that mimic any iPod interface will be rejected” – Who makes that Remote app that looks just like iPod.app?

4: “Apps that alter the functions of standard switches, such as the Volume Up/Down and Ring/Silent switches, will be rejected” – Camera+!

5: “Apps containing “rental” content or services that expire after a limited time will be rejected” – iTunes TV show and movie rentals FTW!

6: “Apps that encourage users to use an Apple Device in a way that may cause damage to the device will be rejected” – Don’t break me!

7: “Apps that include games of Russian roulette will be rejected” – No comment.

8: “Apps that contain user generated content that is frequently pornographic (ex “Chat Roulette” apps) will be rejected” – Until there’s an API to keep clothes on.

…And how can I forget my personal all-time favorite: “We have over 250,000 apps in the App Store. We don’t need any more Fart apps.” – Hi, Phillip!

Hope you enjoyed the commentary.

"SHAtter" Will Jailbreak New iDevices including iPod Touch 4G, iPhone 4, and iPad

That's right, you read that correctly. In the recent flurry of the iOS 4.1 release, there has been some great breakthroughs in regards to jailbreaking your iDevice. posixninja and pod2g have discovered the first exploit of the S5L8930 chip, aka, the A4, which allows the use of unsigned code execution in order to create a tethered jailbreak, which as far as current hardware released is concerned, a jailbreak for life. This same vulnerability is the one that was discovered independently by geohot, who abandoned the community a few months ago. However, his name lives on through new jailbreaks today, including the Playstation 3.

Respected members of the Dev Team, like MuscleNerd have also confirmed that this new exploit does indeed work on all of the currently available devices, and works with the newest iOS 4.1. He says on twitter, "That latest exploit from @pod2g confirmed to work beyond iPhone4...also on at least iPad and yesterday's iPod4G too ", which is a great confidence booster for the skeptical.

Please note, that nothing is publicly available yet. These guys are working hard to get everything ready. So if your thinking to update to iOS 4.1 I advise you to wait, because things take time to be coded properly. What they are talking about here is a Tethered jailbreak, but that doesn't mean an untethered one will not follow, as this exploit is an initial starting point for all new untethered exploits to come.

Using this method means that Apple cannot fix this exploit without updating it's hardware first, just as they did with the iPhone 3GS bootrom exploit. So until they update the hardware, there is hope for all of us. Does this mean you should go out and buy your new iDevice before they fix this? It's not going to be any time soon that Apple will be doing hardware updates, so don't get too worried just yet.

New Exploit Could Bring Jailbreak for iOS 4.1

A new exploit credited to @pod2g could bring about a jailbreak for iOS 4.1, according to a series of tweets from MuscleNerd.

Earlier today @pod2g tweeted the following decryption keys:

iPhone 4G iBSS 4.0.1: iv=91f94e5d726a2d2f2c7ffad58d4f3b77 key=d05c3c40db40e738926f811b8b1314038d26096c4102461698a49098c47a3fe6
MuscleNerd then tweets:

congrats to @pod2g for the latest exploit and also @p0sixninja who have been trying for months.

Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left...keep away from 4.1 for now!)

We'll keep you up to date on the situation as we learn more.

Please remember not to upgrade to iOS 4.1.

UPDATE: We’re being told by someone who has knowledge about this exploit that in order to patch this particular bootrom hack Apple would need “a whole new processor rev.” A re-flashed or patched bootrom for the current hardware would not be sufficient.

It’s a trap!

Today you’ll likely start seeing iTunes innocently offer you a new version of iOS…version 4.1. Don’t accept it - it’s a trap!

This time of year there are lots of new iPhone owners, and not everybody knows that accepting new iOS updates is the surest way to lose your jailbreak and/or unlock. While those of you who have Cydia or TinyUmbrella backups of your FW hashes will always be able to get back to 4.0.1 if you make this mistake, this doesn’t hold for unlockers. There’s currently no known way to revert your baseband — if you update your baseband you’ll lose the ultrasn0w unlock, possible forever.

Please stay away from this 4.1 release until a safe jailbreak procedure (which also preserves ultrasn0w) is developed and released.

P.S. There are a tiny number of iPhone3G owners who can revert their basebands due to a flaw in very early bootloaders…you will already know if you fit in this category!

Apple sucks at Photoshop too

Ladies and gentlemen, presenting the new fourth-generation iPod touch: it's so much like an iPhone that it has a Phone app (wait, what?). Better yet, if you do a Spotlight search on it, it'll return results from a messaging app it's not supposed to have. How's that for value? This would all be a great big enigmatic mystery if we weren't ourselves familiar with the practice (and pitfalls) of splicing disparate images into unholy creations. Well, at least now Microsoft isn't alone in making self-published Photoshop gaffes.

P.S. -- There's one more misplaced app on this magical device, but we'll let you figure it out for yourself!

[Thanks, Michael and Rory]

Update: Apple's now finally rid itself of the ignoble image above, but the lower two remain.

Hello Everyone

My nickname is xplode, i was well known in Blueangel rom cooking back in the days. I have been collecting roms for Blueangel, Harrier and Magician for quite some time, and one day i decided to share my collection with all of you. This site is a product of 3 years shipped rom collecting, (even paid for some rare Blueangel and Magician ones). So I uploaded my whole collection to 3 mirrors, and share it free with evryone. The reason i collecting Blueangel roms was to try and study the software development for this device. Also many people have problems with cooked roms here they can revert to their stock ones on many languages.
In addition to that i decided to add all iPhone, iPod and recently iPad firmwares to this site. And to answer all to the question which pops up in your heads - yes i switched to the dark side (Apple products). As some of you know this site is online for a few years, but recently I obtained this free domain name (which matches my nickname) and decided to change the interface which is hopefully for good.
I left an option for paypal donation if anyone is thankful.
